Workshop Overview
Creation As Sustenance & Resistance
A collaboration workshop from Chicago Regional Organizing for Antiracism (CROAR) + Friendship Community Place
The current political climate in the U.S. has many of us feeling despondent, indignant and overwhelmed. It is important that in times like these we prioritize grounding ourselves and cultivating joy; our imagination can be an amazing resource for this. Engaging in collective and creative processes make a way for us to share our experiences, trials and visions; essentially allowing us to be known in ways that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. This gathering will provide opportunities to engage food, hospitality, art and music in ways that will cultivate the hope, fortitude and community that we need to continue to champion the restoration of all creation. We believe this time together will be a powerful medium to sustenance and resistance.
You'll spend the day immersed in one of three tracks — choose the one that calls to you:
Visual Art-Making as Resistance - Activate & strengthen our imagination for the sake of disruption and creation. (12 spots)
Soundtrack for our Tiny Revolutions- Cultivating joy and connection through music. (8 Spots)
The Subversive Table – Cooking, Baking & Hospitality as Creative Resistance (6 spots)

Space Utilization Team Meeting
The Space Utilization Team is responsible for maintaining our space, planning creatively and strategically for the use of our space and implementing processes and policies for use of our space. Mission & Partnerships Team Meeting
The Mission & Partnerships Team coordinates with current partner organizations and cultivates new relationships in our community. They are responsible for our kitchen programming and curate faith and community based programming that speaks to Friendship’s commitments. Neighbors for Affordable Housing Meeting
NFAH is a grassroots community group supporting affordable, accessible housing on Chicago’s Northwest Side, and beyond. Friendship Community Place and Friendship Presbyterian Church join NFAH to work towards making our community more accessible, inclusive, vibrant, and compassionate. FPC is a founding member of NFAH. Community Garden Work Day
Join us for our first Community Garden work day of 2026! This work day will focus on garden clean up and building new raised beds for the season. All gardening experience levels are welcome!
Neighbor Nights Brainstorming Session
Friendship is launching an Activity Team so that we can host regular Neighbor Nights! These evenings will be free events for the community to connect and hang out. Think bingo, movie nights, karaoke, game nights, and more!

Together with community partners, we’re launching a Monthly NWSide Queer potluck for our LGBTQIA+ community! We will convene it at Friendship on the first Friday of each month. You are invited to bring a dish to share and to arrive exactly as you are. This time, our friends Chris and Maryann are cooking up a blast from the past with their theme: School Lunch Throwbacks! We will revisit (and maybe reimagine) some favorite school cafeteria dishes. Check out some great ideas here for inspiration. RSVP here!
